Need something to hatch your pupae in? Check these out.

At BigFatPhids LLC, we understand how important it is to receive healthy, high-quality blue bottle spikes—and we take that responsibility seriously.

To ensure the integrity of every batch, we collect and retain a small sample from each batch before shipments are sent out each week. These samples are then hatched and monitored in-house under controlled conditions. This allows us to verify the health and viability of the flies from that specific batch, even after the product has shipped.

This process helps us maintain consistent quality, protect our customers from confusion with flies from other sources, and prevent fraudulent claims that could lead to unnecessary price increases for everyone.

If you ever have concerns about your order, we’re here to help. We’ll gladly compare your experience with our retained sample to ensure transparency and fairness.

Thank you for trusting us to be part of your success.

Basic Instructions for Hatching Blue Bottle Larvae

Successful hatching is greatly reduced after 30 days in the fridge. We don't recommend feeding these off after 45 days

  1. Prepare a Hatching Container

    • Use a well-ventilated container with a lid to prevent escape.
    • Add a moisture-retaining filler like coco fiber, sphagnum moss, or the included filler to maintain humidity.
  2. Maintain Proper Humidity

    • Lightly mist the filler with water to keep it damp, but not soaking wet.
    • Higher humidity helps speed up the hatching process.
  3. Temperature Requirements

    • Keep the container in a warm area, ideally between 75–85°F (24–29°C).
    • Avoid direct sunlight or extreme temperature changes.
  4. Time to Hatch

    • Under ideal conditions, larvae will pupate and hatch into flies within 7–14 days.
    • Higher humidity and warmth can speed up the process, while cooler, drier conditions may slow it down.
  5. Feeding Newly Hatched Flies

    • Once hatched, provide a food source like sugar water, fruit, or Repashy Superload to keep the flies active and healthy.
  6. Troubleshooting

    • Too slow? Increase the warmth and humidity.
    • Too dry? Lightly mist the filler to maintain moisture.
    • Not hatching? Give them more time and check the environmental conditions.
